Definition
This field holds the country code of the student's permanent or home address prior to entry to the engagement. It is not necessarily the correspondence address of the student.
Reason Required
Required by the OfS to establish the country of a student's permanent or home address on entry to an engagement, to be used for various processes including derivation of institutional performance measures, funding calculations and providing contextual information.

This field should collect the country the student lived in for non-educational purposes before starting their engagement. New entrants from UCAS will have this completed by UCAS and sent to providers.

Where the student's permanent home address is in the UK, the specific UK codes (XF, XG, XH, XI) must be used. If the permanent home address is known to be in the United Kingdom but the individual country is not known, XK United Kingdom, not otherwise specified may be returned, but this must not be used as a default for UK addresses.

Where a student has attended boarding school in a particular country for a substantial period of time before entering higher education, we would not expect to see the country of the boarding school listed as their domicile.
